THE ASSASSIN’S PRACTICE

It was a gathering of movie producers, Nollywood professionals and journalists at the press screening of a new movie, The Assassin Practice held at the Silverbird Galleria, Victoria Island, Lagos.
With a short and catchy title, one would not expect anything short of a good story line from the Andrew Ukoko produced movie which paraded veterans in Nollywood such as Justus Esiri and delectable actress, Kate Henshaw. Fast rising actor David Nnaji and Eve Pearson also starred in the film.
The movie, shot in both Lagos and London, tells the story of a wannabe psychotherapist who had a history of insanity and was on a mission from London to assassinate a man, Eviano in Nigeria.
Eviano, played by Justus Esiri is a failed stock investor who thinks staging his suicide would provide a better life for his wife (Kate Henshaw) and his twenty-one year old daughter.
He therefore arranges for an assassin that would kill him in a supposed robbery operation so that his dependants would live off his life insurance after his demise.
One interesting fact to note in the film was that it was laced with pure comic relief without necessarily losing the essence of the story. The story line was kept intact despite the drama, suspense and the intrigue embedded in The Assassin’s Practice.
Again, it portrayed the essence of information sharing when a character in the movie (Justus Esiri’s daughter) made use of her mobile to contact the Police during a robbery attack to which surprisingly the men in black and now, blue responded to.
One has to give credit to the script writer as the dialogues in the scenes were superb and the actors delivered it effortlessly.
Speaking on challenges faced during the production, ace producer, Andrew Ukoko explained that though it was a taxing endeavour shuttling with the crew from Lagos to London, it was a venture worth every penny.
He however showered encomiums on Dele Ajakaiye, the co-producer who according to him did an excellent job on the London set.
On her part, ever-smiling actress, Kate Henshaw extolled the acting prowess of her co-star, Justus Esiri saying that she was thrilled to work alongside a veteran in the industry. Henshaw herself is not a newbie in Nollywood as she has appeared in notable movies and soap operas. She was optimistic that the flick would perform excellently at the box office.
Present at the press screening was fast rising actor David Nnaji who rose to fame through the ‘Dear Mother’ series. Contrary to the seemingly ‘good boy’ roles he was known for, Nnaji played the daring role of an armed robber in the movie set to hit the cinemas on February 22, 2013.
Describing his role, Nnaji said he got immersed into the character weeks before he got on location which made him perform true to the script. A young actor with his hands in other spectrum of the entertainment world, he is positive that The Assassin’s Practice would generate good reviews. In essence, The Assassin’s practice is a must watch movie which captures the essence of lightning the candel of hope in every dim situation.
