Africa Magic Viewers Choice
Awards, held at
the Eko Hotel and Suites on Saturday, March 9, 2013, had a massive turn out,
ranging from Nollywood Celebrities, Musicians, to Politicians been the first
edition. Fashion was not left out from this award show, as different outfits
were displayed during the red carpet, which further added to the glow of the
event.
The top winners were Nigerian AMBO winner, Actor O.C Ukeje and Ghanaian versatile
actress Jackie Appia who won Best Actor, Best Actress while Mercy
Johnson went away as Best actress Comedy award.
It was a
shocker to many why some actresses like Genevieve Nnaji and Funke
Akindele-Oloyede could not emerge as winners in any of the categories.
The ‘Best director’ award went to Anita van
Hemert and Chantel Carter for the South African 2011 Drama
movie ‘Otelo Burning‘ while veteran filmmaker Tunde Kelani walked
away with the award ‘Best Local Language Movie’ (Yoruba) for his latest film
‘Maami’
Seasoned actor Olu Jacobs received an Industry
Merit Award for his remarkable achievements in the industry.
